The special column “Case Records of Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center (ZOC)” is dedicated to illustrating actual cases of rare eye diseases documented in Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center affiliated to Sun Yat-sen University, founded by the late famous ophthalmologists Professors Yaozhen Chen (Eugene Chan) and Wenshu Mao. Now, ZOC is not only the largest eye hospital in China, but also the permanent headquarter of Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology.
Case Records of ZOC, in which discussants share both their own experience and understanding of the literatures to explore the novel techniques for diagnosis, classification, treatment and prognosis of unusual ocular diseases in individual cases, is devoted to conveying the latest opinions about the controversial issues of rare eye diseases. According to the monthly plenary discussion hosted by ZOC, actual cases of rare ocular illnesses will be selected and published in this special column. Through illustrations of the diagnostic, therapeutic and prognosis experience, literature reviews of current debates and concerns, and highlights of evolutionary developments, we are hoping to deepen the understanding and strengthen the management of refractory ocular diseases. Besides, this column will illustrate the decision-making process by experienced ophthalmologists as they strive to explore the best possible solutions for an individual patient and to accumulate more experience that will guide the clinical management of other patients in the future.
