Annals of Eye Science
Aims and Scope
Annals of Eye Science (AES, Ann Eye Sci, Online ISSN: 2520-4122) is an international, open access, peer-reviewed online journal featuring clinical investigations, clinical observations, and clinically relevant laboratory investigations in the broad fields of ophthalmology. AES is founded in 2016 as an international extension of Yankexuebao/Eye Science (a renowned Chinese ophthalmological journal of more than 36 years of history). Specific areas of interest include, but not limited to, multimodality therapy, biomarkers, imaging, biology, pathology, and technical advances related to ophthalmology. The aim of this journal is to provide a forum for the dissemination of current and practical information on diagnosis, prevention and basic and clinical investigations related to ophthalmology. Contributions pertinent to ophthalmology are also included from related fields such as nutrition, surgery, public health, human genetics, basic sciences, education, sociology, and nursing. The entire submission and review process are managed through OJS system, an electronic system, which provides an efficient way and ensures a rapid turnaround of papers submitted for publication. The Annals of Eye Science is indexed and covered by Web of Science [Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI)].

Information for Authors
AES is a member of Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and it follows the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE)'s guidelines and the ICMJE recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing, and Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journal.
Manuscripts submitted must be the original work of the author(s) and must not be published previously or under consideration for publication elsewhere.
Submission Turnaround Time
- In-house review: 1-3 weeks
- External peer review: 1-3 months
- Publication Ahead of Print: within 1 month after being accepted
- Formal publication: within 1-3 months after being accepted. Original Articles are listed as priority.
Publication Schedule
Published continuously from Dec. 2016 to Dec. 2019, AES now follows a quarterly publication model(March, June, September, December).

All content of the journal is published under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial- NoDerivatives 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0). All articles published open access will be immediately and permanently free for all to read, download, copy and distribute as defined by the applied license.

Introduction to the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center (ZOC)
After more than 50 years of growth and advancement, Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center (ZOC; https://english.gzzoc.com), affiliated to Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou, has rapidly burst into a leading ophthalmic center both at home and abroad with a complete set of disciplines, strong faculty team, advanced diagnosis and treatment equipment, innovative medical excellence and in-depth scientific research. Domestically, ZOC is rated as the first Grade III Level A ophthalmic hospital and the only State Key Laboratory of Ophthalmology in China. It has been ranked No.1 in the specialty of ophthalmology on the China’s Hospital Rankings List initiated by Fudan University for 10 consecutive years and No.1 in the specialty of ophthalmology on the Science and Technology Evaluation Metrics (STEM) List of Chinese Hospitals launched by Institute of Medical Information of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences for six consecutive years.
